Not the rental-shop photo in front of a temple gate. A styled shoot, in the streets, in the city people actually live in.
CONCEPT
The goal is a fashion photograph.
Most kimono photos come out the same way: rented that morning, stood in front of a temple gate, shot from the front. This is the other thing. Your kimono gets treated the way a magazine treats any beautiful piece of clothing, on a real street, with the city in the frame.
Editorial, not commemorative
The elegance of a kimono is the point, not something to work around. The light, the framing and the location get built the way a magazine page gets built.
Kimono with freedom
No formal template and no fixed poses. If you arrive with an idea for a look, bring it. I keep an eye on the kimono while we shoot, so you never have to.
The city is the set
Osaka's backstreets, underpasses and shopfronts. It stops reading as a costume the moment you put it somewhere people actually live.

Where to rent your kimono
A kimono shoot is booked as a normal session (Solo, Duo and so on) at the same prices, Winter Holiday Special included. Kimono rental, dressing, hair and makeup are not included: you pay the kimono shop directly, and I can help you book it. I use KAWAII Osaka in Namba. Day plans can be returned until 9 PM, so evening and night shoots work.

PRACTICAL
A few things that keep it looking right
A kimono is not clothing you can move around in. One long stride and it falls out of shape. These are not rules to box you in, they are what keeps you looking your best in every frame.
No eating or drinking
Street food is the main way a kimono picks up a stain it will not lose.
Keep movements small
Long strides and raised arms pull the hem and the sleeves out of shape.
Nothing on the ground
No sitting or lying directly on the ground, and nowhere wet.
It can be fixed on the spot
Ask me any time. "Is this pose going to ruin it?" is a normal question, and I straighten things between poses.
Read the full list
Sorry for the list. A kimono is real silk, delicate and expensive. One drop of water leaves a mark, and stains and smells do not come out. That is where all of this comes from.
- No eating or drinking during the shoot. Street food is the main way a kimono picks up a stain, and it does not photograph well either.
- Long strides and poses that show a lot of leg pull the hem out of shape and lose the line. Keep the feet close.
- Raised arms open the sleeve too far and pull the whole shoulder out of shape.
- No sitting or lying directly on the ground, no letting the hem or sleeves touch it, and nothing in a wet spot.
- No pulling the collar wide open, dropping a shoulder too far, or tugging hard at the fabric.
- No flapping the hem about or dropping the garment on the floor.
The kimono shop dresses you before we start, so you walk out looking right. During the shoot, say if something feels off. Between poses and locations I will take a moment to straighten everything.
